Spring.

Days lengthen
waters melt
sun's rays felt.

Butterflies emerge
flowers dance
animals prance.

Dewdrops dazzle
sticky buds appear
cloudy skies clear.

Insects hum
fine gentle rain
falls down again.

Colours blaze
soft breezes blow
seeds to sow.

Signs of hope
a song on the wing
the sight of Spring!

Little Wood Pie.(Lesser Spotted Woodpecker)

Miniature jerks
jolting up
gnarled old
tree stumps,
tiny pied bars
come into sight
as you hop
effortlessly
around the
twisted boughs
at incredible
impossible angles,
before beginning
your soft taps
on the aged and
sapless wood
beneath
your feet.

The Hawfinch.

Hips and Haws are your treat,
to crack a cherry stone is quite a feat!
The Greek Nutcracker,retiring and shy,
a slight disturbance and away you fly.

A Cherry Finch handsome and strong,
the Grosbeak snaps an odd little song.
Berry Breaker formidable and sleek,
so lucky were we to get a peep!

The Mountain.

The weak wintry sun casts deep dark shadows like your ageing memory in the quiet reflective waters below the towering majesty of your brooding magnificence.

Eerie calls of far distant water fowl echo over the bleak and barren landscape as their wakes appear like gossamer threads on the surface of the icy water.

Strange sunlit patterns spread slowly across your craggy terrain as each contour is mirrored perfectly into the deep dark waters below.

Silence is all around, enshrining all within your sights into the damp mists that hang and shimmer above your highest peaks.

Over the decades what sights and sounds have reverberated around your rocky abyss?

Steadfast and sure, powerful and mighty your presence to me now a calm dependable continuity of life past, present and future.
